Kendal Crosslands Communities Master Plans

Community Involvement Living Plan Two Adjacent Campuses

Our firm worked with Kendal at Longwood and Crosslands (KCC) in Kennett Square, PA, to simultaneously develop Master Plans to revitalize their two 50-year-old campuses. The key to the success was to provide meaningful opportunities for continued input from residents, staff, board as well as families and other stakeholders. This thoughtful and thorough process included questionnaires, focus groups and charrettes- all occurring virtually during the pandemic. The architectural team identified essential items to retain, items to change for campus functionality, and changes to meet future market demand. All this with an overlay to meet significant energy reduction goals. The resulting Revitalization Plans are living documents intended to be revisited and updated regularly.

The Master Plans are designed with scenarios for areas of the campuses rather than a single defined plan. They are purposely flexible and fluid, understanding that as campus changes are made, the overall plan will be re-evaluated and the next steps in the Revitalization process will be determined.
